Invited guests experienced converting kinetic to mechanical energy in powering the light bulb centerpiece at the SM Megacenter, the mall located in the midst of government institutions and density of business establishments.
“This is done to represent energy sustainability through technology. One single light will unify the venue,” said Erwin Elgado, a mall official.
Participants then wore and took home panda masks made of recycled paper to remember Earth Hour. At the much bigger venue of SM City Cabanatuan, participants lighted hundreds of candles as they enjoyed “amazing” performance of poi dancers.
Mikko Vergara, son of Cabanatuan City Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara, said the activity underscores the need to conserve energy as a way of protecting the community.
His family owns Cabanatuan Electric Corp. (Celcor) that distributes electricity to this highly urbanized city, the trade and education center of Nueva Ecija.
