SAN JOSE DEL MONTE CITY —- Sink holes that suddenly appeared in Barangay San Manuel here are causing fears among residents.

Barangay chairman Gilbert Baptista said five sink holes, some measuring five meters long, were found near houses in their area. One of these is located in Diamond Crest Village, Pleasant Hills Subdivision and the other is in Perga Street Phase 5 Pleasant Hills Subdivision.

Baptista noted that last year three sink holes also appeared behind the Savano Hotel located on Molave Street, Phase 6 Pleasant Hills Subd.

According to Baptista, they have already informed the city government of San Jose del Monte and it has sent an inspection team from the city engineering office for appropriate action.

One of the sink holes is right in front of the house of resident Alexander Bitales.

Bitales said that he noticed the sink hole only last month and filled it with rocks so that the foundation of his house would not collapse and hopes the authorities will take quick response so that it will not cause any more harm to the residents.

According to the report of the local government, sink holes are said to be caused by the recent continuous rains.

Punto! is still getting the San Jose del Monte LGU’s side on this.

Meanwhile, in 2015 the local government abandoned the Karahume Elementary School in the said city after a study of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology revealed that it was located on the West Marikina Valley Fault.

The fault line is right in the middle of the school building and cracks have been seen in the walls and floors of the classrooms.
