CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — With the rainy season expected to begin in less than two weeks, the San Fernando Electric Light and Power Company (SFELAPCO) is reminding residents and local authorities to take extra precautions to prevent electrical accidents and protect power facilities.
PAGASA, the state weather bureau, has reported that signs of the southwest monsoon and increased rainfall may lead to the official onset of the rainy season by early June.
“We urge all stakeholders to be proactive in ensuring their surroundings are safe and power-ready,” said Atty. Cathy Diaz, spokesperson of SFELAPCO. “Electrical safety is everyone’s responsibility, especially as we enter a season prone to flooding, storms, and heavy rainfall.”
SFELAPCO urges the public to observe the following key safety guidelines:
• Trim trees and shrubs near power lines. Local residents and barangays are advised to clear overgrown branches or vegetation near electrical lines to prevent contact that could result in outages or fires.
• Manage flood-prone areas. Avoid water accumulation near electrical installations such as transformers, meters, or underground service boxes.
• Avoid high-risk construction. Do not build structures or install signage, antennas, or scaffolding near power lines.
• Never attempt to fix electrical systems without qualification. Leave repairs to certified electricians and report any damage or exposed lines to SFELAPCO.
• Practice everyday electrical safety. Keep outlets and devices dry, unplug appliances during heavy storms, and inspect your home’s wiring regularly. SFELAPCO is conducting preventive maintenance and system checks across its service areas, with emergency teams on standby as part of its rainy season readiness.
