CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A series of activities has been lined up for “Kaganapan 2015” in celebration of the 14th cityhood anniversary of this capital city on February 4.
During a press conference at the Heroes SF celebrates 14th cityhood anniversary Hall here yesterday, Mayor Edwin “Edsa” Santiago said the theme for this year’s festivities is: “Fernandinong Misasanmetung, Susi Ning Tagumpe at Panyulung (Fernandinos United, Key to Success and Progress).”
Virgilio “Gil” Cortez, chairman of the Kaganapan, said among the activities lined up from January 29 to February 14 are a city clean-up day on Feb. 1, blood-let-ting activity on Feb.3, Thanksgiving Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral at 12 noon also on Feb.3, the Fernandino First Rainbow Run on Feb.4, Pet Mo Show Mo for pet lovers who want to display their favorite pooch or pussy on Feb.6, Metro Job Fair also on Feb. 6, Aldo Ring Calesa also on Feb. 6, the 36-kilometer city-wide Cycling Caravan on Feb. 7, Palarong Empleyado on Feb. 9, FernandinoFirst Fair Food Agro Industrial Revolution at the City Hall on Feb. 10-14, a Zumba Marathon on Feb. 13, and the Fernandino First Valentines Street Party at the Robinsons Starmills on Feb. 14.
“The celebration is part of the history of San Fernando that became a city 14 years ago and every year we are doing this to show our unity as Fernandinos,” Vice Mayor Jimmy T. Lazatin said.
Santiago said the festivities for the cityhood anniversary are also meant to showcase the heritage as well as the cultural and traditional lifestyle of the Fernandino by looking back and remembering its history.
“Ing kulturang Kapampangan akakit taya keng Ciudad San Fernando anya ing ciudad ing maging sentru ning kultura(The Kapampangan culture is mirrored in the City of San Fernando that is why the city is the center of our culture),” the mayor said.
Santiago also said Kaganapan 2015 is also promoting the traditional and world renowned Kapampangan food and delicacies and the Fernandinos excellent craftsmanship as shown by the Fernandino lantern and furniture makers. Today, Santiago said, the city has progressed into a highly urbanized community with a P1.3 billion consolidated income and projected income even without increasing the real property taxes.
