PALAYAN CITY – Seven Novo Ecijanos were honored here during the “Nueva Ecija Day” celebration by the provincial government for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields of endeavor.
Honored in ceremonies held at the provincial convention center here Wednesday were national artist for literature Lazaro Francisco (posthumous), businesswoman Letty Uy, radio broadcaster Joe Taruc, TV host Willie Revillame, chief of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Oscar Calderon, Bishop Oscar Solis of Los Angeles, California, and businessman Oscar Violago.
Gov. Aurelio Umali and Rep. Czarina Umali (3rd district, Nueva Ecija) handed the plaque of recognition to the honorees and or their representatives.
Businesswoman Uy is the owner of a bakeshop-restaurant-stores which has now several branches. She is also established the first homegrown mall, the NE Mall.
Taruc of DZRH is from Gapan City. Revillame, host of a famous noontime TV show, is originally from Cabanatuan City.
Calderon, former PNP director-general is from Aliaga, Nueva Ecija while businessman Violago is from San Jose City.
Bishop Solis is from San Jose City. He went to the USA after a stint as a priest in the Diocese of Cabanatuan and he was ordained bishop in California.
Francisco, the formost Tagalog novelist, was a native of Orani, Bataan who transferred to Nueva Ecija when he was 16 years old. He wrote and published 12 novels in which his being a “visionary and social critic were clearly discerned”.
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and House Speaker Prospero Nograles who were the guests of honor and speaker during the program both promised budget allocations for the province’s additional farm-to-market roads, irrigation projects, and dairying.
Nograles wowed the audience by singing the song “The Wonder of You”.
