SAMAL, Bataan: The setting-up of checkpoints of the Commission on Elections manned by personnel of the Philippine National Police started at the MacArthur Highway here at 8:00 in the morning of January 12.
Samal municipal election officer Maribeth Abadecio and Samal police chief Capt. Gilcerio Dizon, Jr. led in the kick-off.
Abadecio reminded the police officers to follow rules and regulations in the conduct of the checkpoint and to always be careful and safe throughout the election period.
Dizon said the manning of checkpoints is not new to the police. “Paalaala lang natin sa ating mga tauhan na maging magalang sa mga motorista. I-check lamang kung ano ang nararapat na i-check para sa kaligtasan ng lahat.”
He advised the public to cooperate with the people manning the Comelec checkpoints for a peaceful and safe elections.
Dizon said Bataan police director Col. Palmer Tria ordered the holding of simultaneous checkpoints in the province at 12:01 at dawn of Sunday in addition to the 8:00 a.m. kick-off.
He said they were in the process of conducting the checkpoint when their checkpoint signboard was hit by a speeding drunk motorcycle rider. The signboard was damaged but no one was hurt. (30)
