CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Barangay San Juan folk came out in droves to welcome leading city vice mayoralty bet Jimmy T. Lazatin in his campaign sortie in the said village last Wednesday.

This time, senior citizens led by Fely Villanueva swarmed Lazatin as he conducted house-to-house campaign and a caucus with barangay leaders and later expounded on his platform in a well-attended miting de avance.

A day earlier, it was the youth that were won over by Lazatin at the ceremony for  the new batch of 322 City College graduates held at the Mini-Convention Center of the Heroes Hall here.

Lazatin was applauded with his remarks that there is no reason for anyone who wants to pursue a college education not to enrol just because of poverty.

Lazatin, chairman of the Committee on Education in the City Council, said it is his mission to make college education free in the city especially to the poor but deserving students. He said he believed that education is the key to success as he echoed Rizal’s words that “the youth is the hope of the fatherland.”

The city college graduates received their diplomas in Business Administration, Education, Business Administration and Information Technology. Lazatin was the principal author of the legislation creating the city college among others.

Meanwhile, those who attended the caucus were led by Barangay Captain Allan David and kagawads Nilo Gregorio and Isaac Takashima. Joining were sangguniang kabataan chairperson Carla Panganiban and bantay bayan Chief Fernando Sanchez.

During the miting de avance Jeffrey Pascual led the prayer while Engr. Marni Castro introduced Lazatin.

It can be recalled that in the 2010 elections, Lazatin was number 1 in the barangay.
