Seized by BOC-Clark: Chinese cookbooks yield US dollars

CLARK FREEPORT The Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark seized $54,215 dollars in various denominations found inserted in the pages of different magazines last June 5, a belated post in the agencys FB page showed.

Declared as Chinese Cook Book Recipes, the shipment arrived from Hong Kong on May 25 and was subjected to non-intrusive examination the post said.

This led to the discovery of 540 pieces of $100 bills, two pieces of $50 bills, four pieces of $20 bills, one $10 bill, and five $5 bills inserted on pages of sevendifferent magazines.

The total find of $54,215 is equivalent to P2.7 million.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued by Port of Clark district collector Atty. Ruby Alameda for violation of Sections 1400 and 1113 f, i & l (3) of R.A. No. 10863 (CMTA) in relation to BSP Foreign Exchange Transaction Manual.

Alameda hailed the BOC personnels strict profiling” of shipments that led to the seizure of the contraband, even as she vowed that the port will remain vigilant in tracking this kind of schemes used by unscrupulous individuals to defraud the government.
