TARLAC CITY (PIA) – Securities and Exchange Commission Tarlac Extension Office (SEC-TEO) trained Tarlac State University (TSU) business students on financial literacy.
The seminar entitled “Financial Seminar: Formulate the Future, Be FIN Smart,” aims to provide a platform for students to understand financial concepts and applications that will increase their capacity in managing skills in finances, ensure their financial security, and safeguard against investment fraud.
SEC-TEO Director Richard Laus underscored the significance of capacity-building activities in partnership with universities for students’ awareness on the issues.
“The SEC is very serious in its campaigns against investment scams and we will continue to work hard to fulfill our mandates on investor protection. I urged everyone to consider the risks before investing and I encouraged you to investigate by verifying and checking the legitimacy of these investments with the SEC,” Laus said.
SEC-TEO Securities Specialist Charito Bañez-Santiago presented the importance of personal finance to better control their funds and investments, as well as various investment products being offered in the country.
Likewise, SEC-TEO Securities Counsel Ma. Theresa Lim-Reotutar shared the red flags of investment scams and safeguarding their money from unauthorized investment schemes.
For his part, TSU College of Business and Administration Dean Jhonel Panlilio expressed his gratitude to the commission for being their partner in the seminar.
“We are looking forward to strengthening this collaboration in terms of research and capacity-building programs that will develop consciousness on financial literacy and investor protection among the students and with the local community as well,” Panlilio said.
About 200 students from TSU and partner universities, colleges, and senior high schools participated in the financial seminar organized by TSU-Junior Financial Executives in partnership with SEC-TEO. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
