Securities and Exchange Commission – Tarlac Extension Office (SEC TAREO) started the year strong by successfully conducting its first Investor Education Roadshow this 2025 on January 16 at Magsaysay Memorial College of Zambales, Inc. (MMCZI) in San Narciso, Zambales.
This collaborative event with MMCZI, one of SEC’s campaign network partners, gathered senior high school and college students, aiming to empower the youth with essential financial literacy skills and arm them with knowledge to protect themselves from fraudulent investment schemes.
The roadshow featured informative discussions led by Atty. Ma. Theresa L. Reotutar and Atty. Charito B. Santiago of SEC Tarlac. They emphasized the importance of making well-informed financial decisions, recognizing and avoiding illegal investment schemes, and understanding the five key financial emotions—Gipit, Duda, Waldas, Tipid, and Wais—that significantly influence financial choices and investment management.
Dr. Joy Zenith F. Macalma, Executive Vice-President and College Dean of MMCZI expressed her gratitude for the initiative. She highlighted the significance of equipping students with financial knowledge, noting that it is a vital tool in preparing them for the future.
“Programs like these not only educate our youth but also protect them from potential financial pitfalls. We are grateful to SEC Tarlac for bringing this valuable initiative to our campus,” Dr. Macalma said.
The participants actively engaged in the discussions, raising questions about financial management and sharing their perspectives on financial challenges and opportunities. Many expressed appreciation for the SEC’s efforts to bring these lessons directly to their community.
This roadshow marks the beginning of SEC Tarlac’s 2025 campaign of reaching more communities and campuses in the region to continue spreading financial literacy awareness and investor protection campaigns. It aligns with the SEC’s broader mission of fostering a generation of smart and responsible investors and ensuring that the Filipino public is well-informed about legitimate investment opportunities while being vigilant against scams.
