More than 750 students participated in the Investor Education Campus Roadshow conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) – Tarlac Extension Office on October 22 at Columban College, Inc. in Olongapo City.
The event aimed to enhance students’ financial literacy and strengthen their awareness against investment scams, equipping senior high school and college learners with the knowledge and skills to make sound and informed financial decisions.
Key discussions and interactive investor education games centered on personal finance management, saving and budgeting, and identifying and avoiding fraudulent investment offers. Representing the SEC Tarlac, Atty. Emerald L. Lansangan, Securities Counsel, and Mr. Mark M. Catacutan, Information Officer, shared their expertise as resource speakers during the financial education event.
“Financial literacy is a life skill that everyone must develop early. By empowering students to understand how money works, we help them build a secure future and protect themselves from illegal investment schemes,” Atty. Lansangan said.
For their part, Dr. Adrian Dela Cruz and Ms. Almie Virtudazo, faculty heads of the Columban College Senior High School Department, expressed their gratitude to the SEC for bringing the financial education initiative to their campus.
“We deeply appreciate the SEC’s efforts in educating our students on financial literacy. This program reinforces our goal to mold financially aware and responsible citizens” said Dr. Dela Cruz.
The event forms part of the SEC- Communication, Advocacy, and Network (SEC-CAN) initiative, which seeks to empower Filipinos—especially the youth— with financial wisdom and protection against deceitful investment schemes.
Through its continuing campus roadshows, the SEC Tarlac remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing a generation of smart and vigilant investors in Central Luzon.
