SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – In celebration of the International World Youth Day, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) partnered with some civic organizations and locator-companies in the Subic Bay Freeport to launch two projects to benefit local youth and their families.
Early on Sunday (August 21), almost a thousand students and residents joined the first ANCOP Global Walk here that started at the Marikit Park in Olongapo City and ended at the Boardwalk area in this free port.
ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor) is the social ministry of the group Couples for Christ (CFC), with two anchor programs, shelter and child sponsorship, through which scholarships are given from elementary to college.
CFC-SBMA Chapter member Marco Estabillo said the ANCOP Global Walk was done simultaneously in Metro Manila and 80 provinces in the Philippines, as well as in the United States, Canada and other countries where CFC is present,
Estabillo said that the project launch was a success, and expressed gratitude to all SBMA employees, students, and private individuals, who joined the event and helped raise money for ANCOP scholars.
Estabillo especially thanked young students from the FIRST School in the freeport, who donated their day’s allowances for the ANCOP scholars.
Meanwhile, the SBMA also teamed up with Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Inc. (PMPMI), Air21, and Jaycees International for a free medical program at the Pastolan Ayta village in this free port.
Some 200 children and 100 mothers in the tribal community received free medical check-up and medicines during the launching of the program.
“We are here to address the health needs of the residents of Pastolan Village, especially the mothers and the children,” said PMPMI managing director Chris J. Nelson.
“We celebrate this day with the opening of the free medical clinic and consultation, and distribution of vitamin A to children of Pastolan. This is only part of our commitment to the community,” Nelson added.
Based on the program, Air21 and PMPMI will be holding free medical clinic in the Ayta village every second and fourth Sunday of the month.
