SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – As part of a continuing training to establish a well-rounded corps of police officers here, members of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Law Enforcement Department (SBMA-LED) underwent basic first-aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training this month.

Lolita Mallari, SBMA human resources manager, said 18 police officers completed the Trainers’ Training on CPR and First Aid, and received their training certificates at the June 17 closing ceremonies held at the Subic Dispensary.

Mallari said the five-day training was undertaken to teach the officers become trainers themselves. Volunteers from the SBMA Public Health and Safety Department conducted the training using the latest module on cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

She said the 18 graduates of the course will then train 232 other members of the Subic police force with basic first aid and CPR.

“This is how the cycle of learning goes,” Mallari told the new trainers. “You can’t just keep what you learned among yourselves. You have to pass it on to others.”

Meanwhile, retired P/Gen. Orlando Maddela, Jr., who heads the SBMA-LED, expressed his thanks to the SBMA Human Resources Management Department for supporting his men in their special training courses.

Maddela said that Subic police officers had previously participated in sniper-shooting training, as well as in a course on Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) for selected officers.

During the closing ceremony, Maddela also urged his men to maintain discipline, and emphasized the importance of training in the development of discipline among police officers.

“Discipline comes from training. If you had a poor basic training, then you will become a poor police officer all the way,” Maddela said.

“As members of the SBMA-LED, you are supposed to be more disciplined than others. You should keep that in mind,” Maddela added.
