SASMUAN, Pampanga – A day after uncovering six cops in Caranglan, Nueva Ecija in an extortion case, Central Luzon police’s anti-corruption Counter Intelligence Task Force (CITF) caught red-handed the police chief of this town with some P30,000 he allegedly extorted from an operator of “perya” here.

A report from Camp Olivas regional police headquarters identified the suspect as Sasmuan police head Chief Inspector Romeo Bulanadi who was caught counting the marked money turned over to him in his office by the complainant who was not identified.

The report cited the woman- complainant as saying that Bulanadi, who got a promotion only last year, had denied permission for the “perya” to be moved elsewhere unless she forked out P30,000.

The CITF then set an entrapment operation that included video recording of operations. The video showed Bulanadi having lunch in his office when the complainant arrived with the marked money. CITF agents barged in while the police chief was counting the cash.

Despite the video, Bulanadi was reported to have denied extorting from the complainant, but criminal charges of extortion as well administrative cases were filed against him.

Only last Tuesday, the CITF also launched an entrapment operation in Caranglan, Nueva Ecija after a businessman complained that cops in the town were engaged in extortion at a checkpoint. This led to the arrest of six cops belonging to the town’s police force, as well as two civilian cohorts.
