OLONGAPO CITY — One hundred sari-sari store owners here received P3,500 cash assistance each as the “Sari-Sari Store Recovery” project of former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano rolled out in the city on Saturday.
The beneficiaries attended the “Kwentuhan sa Tindahan” at the Kalalake Elementary School covered court during the project’s soft launch initiated by Association of Barangay Captains president Randy C. Sionzon, in support of Cayetano’s SSR project.
The former speaker and his wife Taguig Rep. Lani Cayetano started the SSR project with to provide capital and micro enterprise trainings to affected sari- sari store owners during the pandemic.
Olongapo was among the first cities selected for their project. Cayetano said the P3,500 was only the first of the cash assistance intended to help the sari-sari store owners.
“We will be monitoring how the money was used and will be ready to give the next tranche,” Cayetano said in his remarks at the event.
He added that they are targeting an initial 50,000 to 100,000 existing sari-sari stores nationwide.
Present during the distribution were barangay captains led by Sionzon, Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr, Zambales Vice Governor Jay Khonghun, and other local officials.
