CABANATUAN CITY – Novo Ecijanos, themselves reeling from the P2.7-billion damage to crops and infrastructure caused by Typhoon Santi last month, have their hearts overflowing for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Central Philippines, the Philippine Red Cross said on Monday.

Ladignon, head of the PRC-Nueva Ecija, said they sent on Friday two truckloads of relief goods which residents personally delivered to their office at the old Capitol compound here. “Some of them just walked in with packs of goods like canned foods, medicines or used but good clothes,” Ladignon said.

Volunteers also visit their office to help repack the goods. Ladignon said they have prepared some pieces of clothing in family-packs which means that each pack contain those for a father, mother, and children. “This is for easy distribution,” she said.

“It’s heartwarming,” Ladignon said, noting that local residents themselves have suffered from the effects of the recent typhoon. Students from various schools also did their share, Ladignon said. “They donated mostly sardines from their own baon,” she said.
