NUEVA VIZCAYA – Police here yesterday vowed to arrest a former mayor after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for falsification of public document.
The former official who is running for the same post for the May 10 polls was identified as Alfredo Castillo Jr., Castaneda town.
Senior Insp. Villegas Claveria, Castaneda police chief, said they have received a copy of the warrant signed by Francisco Villaruz, Jr, chairman of the Sandiganbayan Third Division, which ordered the arrest of Castillo over alleged falsification of public documents in violation of Section 3 of Republic Act 3019.
The Sandiganbayan recommended no bail for his arrest, Claveria said.
It also asked the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for Castillo arrest “as soon as possible, to be dealt with as the law and Rules of the Court direct.”
Claveria said Castillo’s position would not deter authorities from apprehending him.
The charges stemmed from alleged falsification of documents covering a project during his incumbency. The cases were docketed as Criminal Case no. S. 27509 and 27510.
Castillo has reportedly filed a certificate of candidacy (COC) for the May elections. He cannot be reached for comments as of press time.
