SAMAL, Bataan — A trade fair that will be available for five days opened Tuesday in rows of tents along a street adjacent to the municipal plaza here.  

Mayor Alexander Acuzar, Vice Mayor Ronnie Ortiguerra, and members of the sangguniang bayan led the opening of the trade fair, the first held after two years because of the pandemic. The fair was part of the celebration of Tourism Month. 

“Nais nating itampok, kilalanin at suportahan ang mga produktong gawa sa Samal at maging ang mga ipinagmamalaking negosyo ng ating mga kababayan,” Acuzar said.  

Assorted items, mostly locally-made, are for sale in the fair from Monday to Saturday. Despite the rains, many people came in droves on the first day.

Attractive Christmas lanterns made from capiz shells were the main product in the booth of Barangay Sta. Lucia. Capiz shells are plentiful and raised in the sea of Samal. The Sta. Lucia booth got first place in the “Barangay: Produkto Mo, Show Mo” contest. 

Café Indio coffee shop of Sta. Lucia in rustic or rural Filipiniana theme, offers non-caffeinated and caffeinated drinks, both hot and cold.  

Other villages also displayed their products. Barangay East Daan Bago sells atsara, araro cookies, and different recipes of capiz meat. Tabing-Ilog offers clothes, Imelda its vegetables, Ibaba its handmade basket, fabric conditioner, dishwashing liquid. and candles. 

Barangay San Juan sells plants and compost; East Calaguiman has vegetables, atsara and mushroom chicharon for sale; West Calaguiman with palabok, embutido, adobong mani, and tinapang bangus, while upland Gugo offers vegetables like upo, pipino and kalabasa and kamote and buko. 

Other items for sale in separate booths are homemade food products like oysters, mushroom, chili paste, pickled radish, banana cake, lemonade, coffee, chocolate and araro cookies. 

Also available are turmeric and ginger tea, fresh yellow and red ginger, turmeric coffee, buko pie, banana cake, muffins and cookies. There are ihaw-ihaw booths, food hubs selling various food items.

For sale also are solar lights, art craft, paintings, flowering plants, clothes, skin care products, bedsheets, pillows and pillow sheets, curtains, blankets, among some others.
