SAMAL, Bataan — This town and Gerona in Tarlac received P2 million each from the Charoen Pokphand Foods Philippines Corp. (CPFPC) out of the income from the half marathon organized by the Thai firm.
Samal Mayor Alexander Acuzar said Wednesday that his town and Gerona divided the P3.5 million collected from the marathon plus the P500,000 pledged by Udomsak Aksornphakdee, CPFPC senior vice president for aquaculture business.
The event was held last Sunday at the parade grounds of the Clark Freeport in Pampanga.
Acuzar said that CPFPC that has feed mills in Samal and Gerona conducted the half marathon with 21-K, 10-K, and 5-K categories to raise funds for the medical equipment of the two towns.
The Thai firm operates integrated agro-industrial and food business, including livestock and aquaculture such as swine, broiler, layer, duck, shrimp and fish.
The Samal mayor thanked CPFPC officials for the town’s share “Ito ay gagamitin na pambili ng mga modernong gamit para sa Samal Rural Health Unit upang mas lalong maging episyente at mas maraming Samaleño ang maserbisyuhan.”
Samal information officer Raphael Naty said top officials of CPFPC composed of vice chairman Sakol Cheewakoset, senior vice president Udomsak Aksornphakdee and chief finance officer Supakitti Bunvet headed the affair.
Ambassador to the Philippines Tull Traisorat of the Kingdom of Thailand was the guest of honor.
Acuzar, members of the sangguniang bayan and barangay chairmen and other officials from Samal joined the event in full force, Naty said.
