RP’s ICT geniuses join Clark confab

    CLARK FREEPORT — Some 4,000 delegates, including the country’s “geniuses” and luminaries in information and communication technology (ICT) converge here today for the three-day 2nd National Information and Communication Technology Confederation of the Philippines (2nd NICP) Summit.

    Pres. Arroyo will be the guest speaker in the opening rites in the summit hosted by the Metro Clark ICT Council (MCICTC) chaired by George Sorio, senior executive vice president of Cyber City, and the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) headed by its president Benigno Ricafort.

    Ricafort said the President’s keynote address will be followed by a presentation by Commission on ICT chairman Sec. Ray Anthony Roas-Chua III of a study titled “Philippine Position in ICT and Global Trends of BPO IT Industry”.

    The CDC said CyberCity president Jonathan Rosenberg will also tackle the topic “Philippine BPO Industry, Taking the Center Stage”, while Smartmatic International sales director Cesar Flores will handle the topic “Developing Cutting-Edge Technology for the Benefit of Society.”

    CDC’s Ricafort will share with the audience recent developments in this freeport. He lauded the holding of the summit at Clark which, he noted, “is envisioned to be the center for the ICT industries and other related investment projects in the country.”

    Sorio said the MCICTC is a member of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP), which represents the national venue of united partnership for the Philippines’ ICT industry. The NICP is the hub of super regions in Asia with ready information technology platforms for investment destinations, he noted.

    He also said at least 4,000 delegates are expected to arrive here today to attend the three-day summit which he described as “a back to back event which is being organized by the National ICT Conference of the Philippines (NCIP) and spearheaded by CDC, MCICTC, and Cyber City.”

    The three-day summit is also being supported by the CICT and sponsored by Peregrine International, ComClark, and Savers Group of Companies. The two events be will be participated by sectoral members of ICT in the academe, ICT-related business industries and other related investment projects in the country

    Organizers include the Department Trade and Industry (DTI), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Clark Investors and Locators Association, Philippine Society of Information Technology and Educators (PSITE), Fontana Leisure Parks, Technology Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), Stotsenburg Hotel, Angeles City Government, Mabalacat Government, and Smartmatic.

    The event, Sorio said, is a broad collaboration among industry players, supporting the legal and regulatory environment for the Philippines’ ICT industry structure, impediments to growth and recommended undertakings for sustainable development are eyed to be some of the areas of discussions during the summit.

    “It will open doors to businesses and to be attended by various professionals and experts in the following area such as the ICT professionals, ICT companies, trade and professional organizations, consultants and experts, business people, government leaders and various schools, colleges and universities,” Sorio said.

    There will also be speeches and presentations to be made by Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) president Victor Jose I. Luciano; Peregrine International (Global Gateways Logistics City) president Dennis Wright; Angeles City Mayor Francis Nepomuceno, and IBM Philippines representative Iris Hester Tan-Chiu.

    Among other topics to be also discussed are: Integrating ICTin Education; Providing ICT-Enabled Opportunities for Out-Of-School Youth and Adults; Low Cost Computing; Product Options for Mobile and Broadband Communications Services; Technology Imperatives and; Regulations and Governance of Mobile and Broadband

    The summit will also have business matching activities, exhibitions and displays, cultural presentations, street dancing and music gigs, the CDC said.
