CLARK FREEPORT – An older brother of actor Robin Padilla was arrested after battering his wife in a bar here at about 2 a.m. yesterday.
Chief Inspector Luisito Tan, chief of police station 4 in Angeles City, said policemen also found out in the course of their investigation on the wife-beating case that suspect Royette Padilla, 49, also faced a standing warrant of arrest for a homicide case way back in 1999, also in Angeles.
Tan said security police from the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) initially responded to a call for help from V-8 bar in this freeport about Padilla beating a woman who turned out to be his wife Jane, 39.
“Apparently, Padilla was irked when his wife insisted on going home even if he had not yet finished his barrel of beer so he started hitting and pushing his wife,” Tan said. The Padillas reportedly rent a house within Clark.
When the CDC cops arrived, Padilla, carrying his five-year-old son, rushed to his Nissan Safari van and sped towards Clark’s main gate where guards had already been alerted to flag him down.
Tan said that he and Angeles police chief Senior Supt. Rodolfo Recomono rushed to Clark’s gate where they found Padilla still refusing to alight from his vehicle and holding his son.
“We wanted the matter to be resolved before daybreak since there was an Asean golf tournament scheduled at Clark and the conflict was at Clark’s main gate,” Tan said.
Tan also said “we were afraid it would develop into a semi hostage situation, so I took the chance to talk to him since I had met him before,” Tan said.
Tan was able to convince Padilla to talk it over at police station 4 where the latter’s wife later filed a formal complaint against him. He said he was also able to obtain a “commitment order” from the court for Padilla’s immediate arrest after his probers found out Padilla also has a standing warrant of arrest for homicide in Angeles in 1999.
