SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija – A 58-year-old public school teacher and elder sibling were killed in a day-time gun attack perpetrated by a riding-in-tandem in Barangay Magpapalayok here Monday.
Police identified the victims as teacher Cornelio Hementela and his brother Leonilo, 60, jobless, both residents of the said village.
Investigation showed the duo were on board a tricycle driven by the elder Hementela when fired at by the suspects who tailed them at about 10:30 a.m.
“Upon reaching the place of incident, the suspects on board a motorcycle in the same direction overtook the tricycle then fired consecutive shots hitting both victims on the head and different parts of their bodies,” police said in a report transmitted to the Nueva Ecija provincial police office.
Both victims died instantaneously, police said.
The suspects fled towards Barangay Adorable, investigation disclosed.
Forensic investigators recovered two spent shells from a .45 caliber pistol, mobile phones, and other personal effects.
Follow up investigations are being conducted for possible identification of the suspects and motive behind the attack, police said.
