TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – The municipal government re-imposed the ban on liqour amid the surge in confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease.
Mayor Nerivi Santos-Martinez issued Monday Executive Order no. 44-2020 “reinstating the prohibition of the selling or serving of liquor, alcoholic beverages, wines, and other alcoholic drinks in the Municipality of Talavera during the modified community quarantine period.”
President Duterte has placed the province of Nueva Ecija under MGCQ from July 1-15.
It has been observed that selling or serving and consumption of liquors and other similar alcoholic drinks encourage close contact among people thereby defeating the objectives of the community quarantine, the EO said.
“The recent Covid cases in the municipality mainly caused by gathering and drinking of liquor and alcohol,” it explained.
On Sunday, two confirmed Covid–19 cases were reported here, following the death of a 63-year-old patient on July 2.
The new patients, a 70-year-old man of Barangay Maestrang Kikay and a 23-year-old woman of Barangay Matias are now placed in a quarantine facility.
As consumption of liquor in public places is prohibited, “homeowners should not invite guests or visitors for drinking sessions or any other social activities,” the EO further provides.
The penalties for violation of the liquor ban include revocation of business permits for establishments, imposition of applicable penalties for minors and imposition of Republic Act 11332 or Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.
