RIA ATAYDE explains why she chose to follow her mother Sylvia and brother Arjo’s career path.

The ABS-CBN star is the daughter of veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez and the sister of Arjo.

Ria recalled that she almost started her journey in showbiz by auditioning for Pinoy Big Brother.

The Kapamilya star candidly recalled what made her follow her mom and brother’s footsteps.

Ria pointed out, “Hindi ko naman binalak mag-showbiz talaga. Nung nag-graduate ako sa college, umalis ako.

“Then nung tumawag si Mommy, may audition raw. Sabi niya, ‘Kung gusto mong mag-audition, kailangan mo nang umuwi ng Philippines.’”

“Nanaginip ako na umaarte ako, so sabi ko ‘Okay, this has to be a sign.’”

The actress came back and auditioned for some shows, including Pinoy Big Brother “Nag-audition ako for PBB, kaso umalis ako bago yung final interview,” she said.

She did not complete the audition process because she felt she did not deserve to be a PBB housemate.

“May part kasi dun na one-on-one may kausap ka. Mag-uusap kayo kung bakit niyo gustong makapasok.

“Sabi ko, ‘Wala lang gusto ko lang ma-try.’ E, alam ko naman na yung dahilan nung isang taong yun is matulungan yung family niya.

“E, sino ba naman ako para tanggalin yung opportunity na yun sa kanya?”

Ria got her big break when she was cast in the 2015 TV series Ningning. She is part of the Kapamilya prime-time series Halik.

KYLIE PADILLA on Aljur Abrenica encouraging her to stay in GMA-7:

“What he said to me, ‘Alam mo, sa ngayon you have a place there sa GMA. So gawin mo na lang yung best mo.’”

Although her husband Aljur Abrenica is currently with ABS-CBN, Kylie clarified that he never asked her to transfer to the Kapamilya network so they can work in the same TV network.

The 26-year-old Kapuso actress explained, “When it comes to my career, I have the last say. Siyempre, ipapaalam ko sa kanya yung mga gusto kong gawin. Pero at the end of the day, ako pa rin.”

She revealed that Aljur actually advised her to stay in GMA Network.

“What he said to me, ‘Alam mo, sa ngayon you have a place there sa GMA. So gawin mo na lang yung best mo.’

“Hindi naman sa makabawi. Ang pangit ng bawi… Pero ipakita mo sa kanila na you’re ready to work again.”

As it happened, Kylie was among the lead stars of GMA-7’s remake of Encantadia together with Sanya Lopez, Gabbi Garcia, and Glaiza de Castro.

The top-rating Kapuso telefantasya aired from July 2016 to May 2017.

But in February 2017, Kylie was forced to leave the show because she was pregnant with Aljur’s child.

She returned to work in May 2018 via her guest appearance on GMA’s weekly variety show Lip Sync Battle.

In June 2018, she and her Encantadia leading man Ruru Madrid had a special appearance in the 2018 Kapuso primetime series The Cure, topbilled by Jennylyn Mercado and Tom Rodriguez.

In September 2018, Kylie had another guest appearance with her fellow Sang’gres in the now-defunct telefantasya Victor Magtanggol.

This 2019, Kylie and Ruru are headlining TODA One I Love, a political romantic-comedy series that GMA News and Public Affairs created in time for the May elections.

Aljur, for his part, is set to headline ABS-CBN’s upcoming drama series SanDugo together with Ejay Falcon and Elisse Joson.

Talking about how she and Aljur work in two different TV networks, she said: “Actually, na-enjoy ko siya, ‘We have our respective places na, di ba?

“So he goes to work. I go to work. We have two diff erent worlds.

“Pero nagma-match din when it comes to the right time like the [ABS-CBN] Ball, di ba? Nakapunta ako dun, nakabisita ako.”

She added that it’s also good for them to have their own space when it comes to work.

“Oo, e. Dati kasi when we were younger, halimbawa, magrerehearsal, magkikita na naman kami sa rehearsal.

“Tapos hindi ko alam kung magiging sweet ba ako, or yung ilulugar mo pa yung sarili mo…

“Ngayon, it’s very professional na, wala nang ganun.”
