Rex Smith who popularized the songs, You Take My Breath Away, Simply Jesse, Let’s Make a Memory, Forever, and Everlasting Love, among others, will perform live as part of Widus International Leisure, Inc. (WILI) promotions of the hotel.
“This will be the start of bringing in more international artists here. The goal is to basically make Widus as a destination as an entertainment center,”said Danee Samonte, president of Steve O’Neal Productions and promoter of Smith.
A performance agreement contract was signed over the weekend at the Macau Room of Widus Hotel between Samonte and Alfred M. Reyes, general manager of WILI for Smith’s live performance at the hotel’s convention center at 8 p.m. on June 23.
Samonte said the front act will be Kyle Vincent, an American singer and multi-instrumentalist and who is also the favorite opening act of international superstar balladeer Barry Manilow. Vincent is also known in pop culture as “the crown prince of soft pop.”
Reyes said home-grown talents the Decadas Band will also be part of the front act of Smith’s concert.
Meanwhile, Smith as an actor in Broadway has appeared in The Sound of Music as Captain Von Trapp, The West Side Story, Grease, as Jesus Christ in Jesus Christ Superstar, Sunset Boulevard, and Phantom of the Opera among others. Samonte said part of his Widus repertoire will be hit songs from his Broadway stints.
Tickets will be available at Widus Hotel, SM, and Clark Development Corp. (CDC) at P1,800, P1,500 and P1,200.
