CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Business leader and good governance advocate Rene G. Romero has belied reports of his “retirement” that could have come unwittingly in a Facebook post of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PamCham).
Titled “PamCham Board of Directors Elects New Chairman in Special Meeting,” the postdated August 1, 2025, referenced Romero’s departure from the business group as “retirement.”
Reacted Romero: “I appreciate the kind words shared by [PamCham] president Atty. Paul Yusi. However, for the record, I wish to clarify that I formally resigned from my position as chairman of the Board of PamCham and did not retire.” “Although PamCham qualified that I would be spending more of my time and efforts on other engagements, particularly in my role as vice chair of the Philippine Chamber Development Institute (PhilCDI), I remain fully active in my professional and advocacy work. I look forward to continuing to serve the business sector and our communities in various capacities,” he added.
Romero, who helped nurture PamCham from its infancy, resigned from the chamber last May as chairman of the board of directors.
“With due respect and careful consideration, I am formally and irrevocably tendering my RESIGNATION as a member of the Board of Directors of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., relinquishing my post as Chairman, effective immediately,” he wrote in his letter of resignation dated May 15, 2025.
“I have always believed that public service and advocacy must come from a place of personal conviction and genuine concern for community development. Since the inception of PamCham, I have consistently stood for the principles of good governance, responsible leadership, and private sector engagement in nation-building,” he added.
Romero has served as business representative in the Regional Development Council of Central Luzon and stands at the forefront of various advocacies championing the micro, small, and medium enterprises; equitable compensation rights, even beyond business causes as the environment and climate change, infrastructure development, and good governance.
