Thus said Third District Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales on Saturday, appealing to the participants and spectators of the finals of his first-ever inter-barangay basketball tournament at the University of Assumption Gym here.
The championship game ended peacefully despite the a jampacked crowd at the covered court.
Led by MVP BJ Santos, Barangay Del Pilar mangled San Pedro in the finals, 95-68.
Gonzales surprised the contending teams before the start of the championship when he vowed to bring the winning team to an all expenses vacation to Boracay Island in Aklan.
“There have been rumors circulating around that I will bring the champion team to Boracay. I will turn the rumor into a reality provided you will always adhere to sportsmanship,” said Gonzales, eliciting applause from the crowd.
In the battle for third place, Barangay San Jose edged out Sta. Lucia in overtime, 89-87.
The two-month long tournament was participated by 35 villages here.
Gonzales announced that the he will sponsor other inter-village basketball league in his district.
“It was highly successful in Mexico. No it’s about to end in San Fernando. It has just started in Bacolor. More to come,” he added.
