CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Five suspected carnappers involved in rent-sangla scam were arrested by elements of Bulacan Provincial Highway Patrol Team following the recovery of two motor vehicles in Barangay Loma De Gato, Marilao, Bulacan on March 1.

Reports reaching Regional Highway Patrol Unit 3 chief Col. Bernard Marzal identified the arrested suspects as Jennelyn Godoy y Esguerra, 33, of Block 18, Lot 10, Phase 1-A, Harvie Odin y MinglalaI, 35, of Block 11, Lot 2, Phase 1-C, and Lorenzo Sagayap y Santillan, 32, of Block 15, Lot 1, Phase 1-A, all in La Poblacion Subdivision, Barangay Muzon, San Jose Del Monte; John Ace Chavez, 22, of No. 338 San Miguel Street, Barangay Tuktukan, Guiguinto; and Carlo Etomay y Ytol, 39, of No. 791 Camia Street, Barangay Wawa, Balagtas, all in Bulacan province.

The law enforcers led by Major Michael M. Villar conducted anti-carnapping operation at about 11:30 p.m. on March 1 at the vicinity of Barangay Loma De Gato, that resulted to the recovery the vehicles and arrest of the suspects.

The operation was laid out in response to the complainant of Monaliza Pajares y Acantilado, 28, of No. 315 Libis Gochuico Street, Barangay 22, Caloocan City, of her missing Toyota Avanza.

According to Pajares, suspects Odin and Godoy rented the Toyota Avanza, a Mitsubishi Xpander, a Toyota Fortuner, another Toyota Avanza, and a Mitsubishi Mirage sometime in January and February 2022. However, instead of returning said vehicles to the owner on the supposed date of return, the suspects “with intent to gain and without the knowledge of the owner, pawned the same to different persons.”

Through GPS tracker installed in the vehicles, these were located at Mabilis Street, Diliman, Quezon City.

Accompanied by Pajares, the Bulacan PHPT recovered the Toyota Avanza parked unattended along Mabilis Street and found to have been pawned to Richelle Cobacha.

According to Cobacha, the suspects hadanother Mitsubishi Montero Sport being offered to her and agreed to meet at Barangay Loma De Gato, Marilao.

Initial verification by HPG disclosed that the said Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Plate No. CAR-8878 was rented from Ruvie Jane Amores y Martinez, 36, of Block 7, Lot 20, Phase M, Francisco Homes, Barangay Guijo, San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, since Jan. 24, 2022.

PHPT Bulacan recovered from the suspects a Toyota Avanza, Plate No. NFG-2944 and Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Plate No. CAR-8878.

The arrested suspects and their cohort who are still at-large now face charges for violations of R.A. 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Law), Estafa under Article 315, and Falsification under Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code.

The recovered motor vehicles are temporary under the safekeeping of PHPT Bulacan.
