DINALUPIHAN, Bataan- A suspected member of a breakaway communist group was gunned down on Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly resisted arrest and fought it out with police operatives along the rice and corn fields in Sitio Pabarunga, Barangay Old San Jose here.

Insp. Dennis Orbista, police provincial information officer, identified the fatality as Rolando Marzan y Dabu, alias Malou/Erick, an alleged member of the Rebolusyunariong Hukbong Bayan under the Marxist Leninist Party of the Philippines.

The suspect was wanted for murder and illegal possession of drugs.

The police were about to serve a warrant of arrest on the suspect at about 1 p.m. when with three other companions he fled towards the ricefield at the same time firing at the government agents.  Found in the possession of Marzan was a caliber .45 revolver.

Orbista said Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, has directed police intelligence agents to conduct hot pursuit operations on three suspects believed  also to be members of the MLPP/RHB.

A woman said the suspect had visited her in her almost dilapidated hut beside the field and the river only for a few times after they met at a beer house. She said that what she knew was that the man was from Basa in Pampanga.
