CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 3 (RDRRMC 3) passed a resolution adopting the School Hydrological Information Network (SHINe) program.
“Provincial government of Bulacan and Department of Education with guidance from the Pampanga River Flood Forecasting and Warning Center initiated SHINe which aims to address the issues on the effects of climate change particularly on awareness of hydrometeorological related disasters,” Office of Civil Defense Regional Director and RDRRMC 3 Chairperson Marlou L. Salazar said.
The true essence of SHINe is disaster awareness through the school’s hydrological activities as it empowers both the school and the community to protect, prepare and make them resilient against the disastrous effects of flooding.
Meanwhile, the RDRRMC 3 likewise adopted a resolution on the proposed establishment of volunteer corps for Disaster response initially in state universities and colleges in Central Luzon.
“We wish to tap graduates of the National Service Training Program for this endeavor as they are considered important untapped resource that could support the efforts of the government in DRRM,” Salazar added. -PIA 3
