CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— Three bridges in Central Luzon have been recently approved for construction under the Bridge Construction/ Replacement Project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In a recent statement, the Regional Development Council (RDC) said it gave the green light for the construction of the Sindol Bridge in San Felipe, Zambales; Langawan Bridge in Dingalan, Aurora; and Samal Bridge in Bataan.

The P4.9-billion project is financed by the Spanish government through its funding agency AECID – the official Spanish agency for international development and cooperation. RDC presiding officer and National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Director Severino Santos said the council “aims to provide structurally sound permanent steel bridges along national roads in order to improve socio-economic, industrial and agricultural activities nationwide.”

It involves the construction of 91 units of steel bridges in different regions of the country with an aggregate length of 3,675 meters, Santos added. RDC 3 is the highest policy-making body in Central Luzon and serves as the counterpart of the NEDA Board at the subnational level.

It is the primary institution that coordinates and sets the direction of all economic and social development efforts in
the region and serves as a forum where local efforts can be related and integrated with national development activities.

Council members include all governors, city mayors, municipal mayors of capital towns, presidents of municipal mayors’ league, regional directors of national government agencies and representatives from the private sector.
