MABALACAT, Pampanga – Food tradition originally from Guagua town is now at the premiere housing project in Barangay Tabun here.

Coreen Razon Garcia-Portugal and her husband Ramoncito opened yesterday their Razon’s Halo-Halo at the Xevera-Mabalacat. The couple also owns the Razon’s outlet at the Xevera housing project in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Coreen disclosed that the first outlet of Razon’s was started by her three aunties – Viring, Maring and Nena — at the LM Subdivision in Guagua in 1962. Today, there are at least 20 branches of Razon’s in Pampanga alone.

Clarita Razon-Garcia, mother of Coreen, said the original recipe of the famous halo-halo was developed sometime in 1902.

“But the halo-halo was only served among the Razon family then,” said Clarita in the dialect. She added that the recipe had not been changed since then.

Fr. Sol Gabriel officiated the blessing of the new restaurant at Xevera’s commercial and business center.
