BALER, Aurora – Young leaders and students in Aurora paid tribute to President Manuel L. Quezon, drawing inspiration from his purposeful leadership during the province’s commemoration of his 81st death anniversary.

The ceremony, held on Aug. 1 at Quezon Memorial Park here, served as a moment of reflection for young leaders and students, who expressed their commitment to uphold Quezon’s values of service and patriotism through active community involvement and leadership.

Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Eunie May Fernando described Quezon as a guiding star for the nation, whose life and work continues to inspire the youth to lead with purpose and national pride.

“He remains a beacon of courage, justice, and love for the country. His legacy reminds us to fulfill our duties with patriotism and compassion,” declared Fernando.

Born in Baler in 1878, Quezon rose from humble beginnings to become the first President of the Philippine Commonwealth.

He championed the development of the national language, advocated for social justice, and laid the groundwork for an independent Philippine government.

Fernando noted that Quezon’s contributions hold a significant place in history, as they helped the nation’s identity and uphold the ideals of independence.

For his part, municipal administrator Vincent Paladio urged young people to view Quezon not merely as a historical figure, but as a living example of leadership anchored in vision, integrity, and love for the country.

“His story teaches us that where you come from does not define your future. Quezon showed us that anyone—even from a small town like Baler—can change the course of a nation,” Paladio said.

President Quezon died on Aug. 1, 1944 in Saranac Lake, New York. His legacy is commemorated annually in Aurora through “Quezon Day,” as declared under RA 9417.

As the nation moves forward, Aurora’s youth continue to draw strength from Quezon’s ideals—carrying his legacy with them as they strive to build a just, united, and purpose-driven Philippines. Melody Joy R. Deliguin/PIA-3
