HUNDREDS of Persons with Disability (PWD) joined the 4th Paralympic Games at the Jose V. Yap Sports and Recreational Complex last March 12.
The games, part of the 7th Kanlahi Festival was a one-day event aimed at paying tribute to Tarlaqueño PWDs who are gifted in the field of sports.
In the 100-meter male and female Saklay Race, Jay Ar Custodio of Tarlac City and Jackielyn Cruz of Ramos were crowned champions with Paniqui’s Reynaldo Ramos and Josephine Taduan of Pura placing second and Victoria’s Brixen Padilla and Marivic Gregorio of Tarlac City placing third.
Alfonso Acosta of Victoria won the 100-meter Wheel Chair Race and Arnold Ferrer of Tarlac City placed second. In the male and female Orthopedic 100-meter dash, Tarlac City’s Bryan Albiento and Victoria’s Mary Joy Briones were victorious while Fernan Mahinay of Victoria and Nimpha Eugenio placing second. Third place is Jeffbeck Malicdem of Anao.
In the shot-put male and female, Angelo Turato of Gerona and Teresita Diaz of Pura were adjudged champions and Jennifer Mariano of La Paz and Gabby Bautista of Tarlac City-second and Raffy Ocampo of Pura and Edna Abogado of Victoria-third. In the Javelin Throw male and female first place went to La Paz’ Angelo Espiritu and Jennielou Agustin, Jay Ar Garcia of Moncada and Mary Mangrobang of Gerona and Pura’s Daniel dela Cruz of Pura and Marites Austria placed second and third.
In the Long Jump male and female, Jerome Salcedo of Gerona and Rie Ann Nacio of La Paz, Herman de Guzman of Tarlac City and Glenda Esteban of Tarlac City and Erwil Peralta of Paniqui and Ludy de Guzman of Ramos placed 1st, 2nd and third respectively.
Anao’s Wilma Aban is the winner of the Badminton Female Orthopedic Singles while Tarlac City’s Hilary Rimando and San Jose’s Arcy Abella placing second and third respectively. In swimming’s 50-meter Male and Female Orthopedic Freestyle, Anthony Bautista of San Clemente and Roma Amor Viernes of La Paz were declared champions. Ramos’ Alfredo Laurio Jr. and Mary Joy Briones of Victoria placed second and Paniqui’s Honrado Serna placing third.
Julius Gonzales of Gerona was declared winner of the Chess Competition with second placer Greg Ignus of Ramos and Vic Domingo of Paniqui rounding up the top three. The local board game Dama produced Manolito Espiritu of San Clemente as champion while Jun Barsolaso of La Paz coming in second and Renante Damaso of Moncada third.
In the Darts competition, Bimbo de Leon of Pura was crowned champion, Christian Bobila of La Paz second and San Clemente’s Manuel Angel Martinez third. Luksong Sako male and female saw Moncada’s Gilbert Ramos and Rose Ann Fabros of Victoria winning the event, Clarence Ferrer of Tarlac City and Chailie Paraiso of Tarlac City and Patricio Granado of Victoria and Charmaine Pangan of Gerona as second and third placers. Basagan ng Banga’s champion is Sherie Cayme of Moncada, Winifred Gismundo of Victoria-second and Calvin Capul-third.
In the team game, Victoria was crowned champions with San Jose/Gerona and Tarlac City second and third place in the Orthopedic Basketball. In the male and female Orthopedic Volleyball game, Tarlac City and Paniqui, Victoria and Tarlac City and Paniqui and Victoria placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.—Arvin F. M. Cabalu
