PORAC, Pampanga — Nestled in Barangay Cangatba at the back of Porac Public Market, a new dairy brand is poised to transform the local dairy landscape.

Puklo Dairy, which celebrated its grand opening on June 12, 2023, endeavors to provide both residents and customers with an opportunity to taste the pure and creamy goodness of pasteurized and homogenized carabao’s milk.

Inspired by the success of New Zealand’s dairy industry, Rabbi Manlapaz, a medical technologist who had the opportunity to work abroad, returned to his hometown in Porac with a vision. Witnessing firsthand the reputation that New Zealand had gained for delivering high-quality dairy products, Rabbi was determined to bring a similar level of excellence to the Philippines.

Drawing from his experiences in New Zealand and with the support of the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), Rabbi embarked on a journey to establish his own buffalo dairy farm. His goal went beyond just creating a successful business: he wanted to provide more job opportunities for Aeta families in the area and equip them with the farming skills needed for self-sufficiency.

After consultations and study, Rabbi developed a concrete plan to adapt the effective dairy processes he had witnessed in New Zealand to his family’s buffalo dairy farm. In January 2023, the Manlapaz-David Dairy Farm was officially registered, paving the way for the birth of Puklo Dairy.

The name “Puklo” holds a special significance. Derived from the local dialect, when a ruminant’s udder is described as “puklo,” it indicates that it is brimming with an abundance of milk. It perfectly encapsulates the essence of Puklo Dairy’s mission—to provide pure, rich, and plentiful milk to its customers.

In their store, customers are greeted with an array of dairy and meat products. The flagship offering is the pasteurized and homogenized buffalo fresh milk. For cheese lovers, Puklo Dairy presents kesong puti, a local favorite made from carabao’s milk. Ice cream enthusiasts can indulge in creamy goodness, while those seeking traditional Filipino delicacies can enjoy tibuk-tibuk and pastiest-leche. Puklo Dairy doesn’t stop at dairy products—it also offers a selection of meat products including carabao meat, duck meat, goat meat, lamb meat, beef, native chicken, and a range of processed meat products such as longganisa and tocino.

The grand opening of Puklo Dairy on June 12 was met with enthusiasm and anticipation from the local community. Mayor Jaime Capil, in attendance at the event, expressed his support for Rabbi Manlapaz’s start-up social enterprise, which aims to create employment opportunities for the indigenous peoples in the town.

Rabbi, humbled by the positive response, believes that Puklo Dairy can become a catalyst for change, inspiring fellow young entrepreneurs in Porac to pursue their dreams and make the town a preferred buffalo dairy supplier in the region.
