JAEN, Nueva Ecija – A public school principal was wounded in a gun attack in Barangay Sto. Tomas North here at about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Major Herbert Ocumen, town police chief, identified the victim as Reden Daquiz, 49, principal of Sto. Tomas North Elementary School and resident of Barangay Niyugan, also of this municipality.

Investigation showed the victim was on board his SUV (CAF 8643) when repeatedly shot by riding-in-tandem suspects in front of the school’s gate.

“They approached and shot the victim several times in his body,” Ocumen said in his report to Nueva Ecija police director Col. Richard Caballero.

The suspects were both wearing black helmets, the pillion rider who reportedly pulled the trigger sported a red jacket. They fled towards Sto. Tomas South on board a blue motorcycle, police said.

A manhunt has been launched against the suspects and checkpoints set for their arrest.

The victim is undergoing treatment at a Nueva Ecija hospital.

Police have yet to established the identities of the suspects as well as the motive behind the attack.
