ANGELES CITY — After two years, the preparation for the city’s most prestigious event — the Mutya Ning Angeles 2022 slated on Dec. 8 — is now in full swing.

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. said that the city will hold a grand and special celebration for the 30th year of the beauty pageant.

Lazatin furthered that this is a symbol of “the city’s resiliency – a reminder which proves that no calamity, disaster or pandemic can stop Angeleños.”

Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel will serve as the assigned head committee for the celebration with Anneleen Antonio-Sugui of the Angeles City Tourism Office.

The coronation night is set to be held at the Grand Palazzo Royale, Manuel says.

Manuel thanked Chef Froi Cruz of the GPR for accommodating the city’s prestigious event as early as March.

“We want to thank the GPR for the early accommodation. March pa lang po sinabihan na tayo kaagad ni Chef Froi Cruz that the venue is a go,” Manuel said.

For this year, Manuel shared, Mayor Lazatin is urging that all the wardrobe to be worn for the pageant must be Angeleño-made, or created by local designers.

Members of the committee for the Mutya Ning Angeles 2022 are Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer Irish Bonus-Llego, and ACTO Consultant Cecille Flores-Sanchez.

The GFP Productions of Gerome Esguerra, Frederick Policarpio, and Poklong Guina will also assist the city’s prestigious event, with Cecil Carreon, Marlon Tuazon, and Marna Dagumboy-Del Rosario.

To recall, on December 8, 2020, the city government achieved a milestone as it successfully held a special virtual event amid the pandemic – the first ever Tribute to the Queens of Mutya Ning Angeles — a brainchild of Manuel.

The pageant was created in 1992 after the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, and is now celebrating its 30th year. Its first coronation night was held at the Holy Angel University (HAU), with Crisanta Delfin as the first title holder.
