PALAYAN CITY – Gov. Aurelio Umali on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the palay procurement activity of the multi-billion Provincial Food Council (PFC) as a precautionary measure against Covid-19.
The PFC buys harvest of Novo Ecijano farmers with pre-validated rice fields of not more than three hectares at P1 or P1.50 a kilo more than the prevailing market value. It also is engaged into milling and selling rice at lower prices.
Umali said the suspension was a result of the emergency meeting of the provincial inter agency task force on Monday.
It will protect some 470 workers and the people they would be transacting with from Covid-19, he said.
He advised farmers to dry their grains as the Capitol will continue procurement once conditions have improved.
Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara of Cabanatuan City, meanwhile, caused the disinfecting of all corners and facilities of the city hall noting the number of people who visit the place for various purposes.
