ANGELES CITY – A team in nearby Porac continues to dominate the ongoing 6thCongressman Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin invitational basketball open at the L and S Subdivision in Barangay Sto. Domingo, here.

Bannered by Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players Mark Yee and Ronnie Matias, Poracay Resort Club defeated JR Party Outlet-Diamond during the tournament’s opening last November 6. Then the team named after the popular resort in Porac won over Roel’s Meat Products, General 9 and 5, and DG Cubacub.

The other team in the six-team basketball tourney is Magalang Selection.

Cup Commissioner Pancho Garcia disclosed that the participating teams will compete in a double-round-robin elimination round. The top two squads will slug it out in a best-of-three series championship.

Garcia said Lazatin had allotted P100,000 as cash prize. The champion will get P60,000, while the runner-up will receive P30,000. The third placer will be given P10,000.

No less than Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, son of the congressman, led the opening of the tournament. His father started to sponsor the yearly tournament in 2004 when he was city mayor.

Lazatin, for his part, said the “very essence of the tournament is to promote sportsmanship.”
