CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A notice to reconvene the municipal board of canvassers of Porac town has been issued by the local election officer pursuant to Commission on Elections’ Second Division (SPA No. 25-069) resolution disqualifying Mayor Jaime Venzon Capil from running in the May 12 elections.
The notice signed by MBOC chair Lizette S. Mallari, set the reconvening on June 3, 10 a.m. at the old municipal building SB session hall in Barangay Poblacion, Porac.
It said the purpose of the reconvening is to “implement and administer the ruling/Resolution of the Commission in SPA No. 25-069 – 2nd Division promulgated on May 28, 2025 to:
1) GRANT the instant petition.
2) Declare Respondent DISQUALIFIED from running for the position of Mayor of the Municipality of Porac, Province of Pampanga in the May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections.
3) Consider the votes cast in favor of the Respondent STRAY.”
Mallari’s notice though did not make any reference to a dispositive part of the Comelec resolution, to wit: “Accordingly, the Municipal Board of Canvassers of Porac, Pampanga is hereby ordered to reconvene and perform the following: 1) make the necessary corrections in the Certificate of Canvass of Votes and Proclamation; and, 2) proclaim the candidate with the highest number of valid votes.”
Former town councilor Michael Legaspi Tapang with 23,63 votes polled second to the disqualified Capil who garnered 39,939 votes deemed stray by the Comelec resolution.
A third candidate, former vice mayor Atty. Charlie Santos posted 3,744 votes.
The camp of Tapang is reported to be already in the midst of preparation for a grand victory party on June 3 for the proclamation of the as-yet presumptive mayor. Punto News Team
