ANGELES CITY – By the proverbial mile. That would be the win of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. over his lone opponent if the elections were held today.
This, according to the results of the most recent survey conducted by the Interactive Data Analysis and Research for Elections 2022 (iDARE) group.
Conducted March 4-8 with 10,368 respondents, the survey results showed Lazatin getting the nod of 9,586 or 92.45%, as against his rival councilor Amos Rivera with 229 or 2.2%. A total of 569 respondents or 5.4% were undecided.
By extrapolation based on the latest survey results, the pollster projected that Lazatin will be winning the May elections by 190,400 votes or 92.4 percent assuming 100 percent of the total registered Angeleños (205,822) will cast their votes.
This, even as iDARE assumed a voter turnout of 82% or 169,000 registered Angeleńos in the upcoming elections.
Different pollsters in earlier surveys showed results pointing to a “landslide victory” for Lazatin, the incumbent posting 92% upwards as the respondents’ chosen candidate generally considered by the pollsters as already “uncatchable” even before the start of the official campaign period for the local candidates.
Bantay Kandidato 2022 that conducted an “online independent survey” on Oct. 5, 2021 showed Lazatin chosen by 616 respondents (96.7%) with Rivera getting 21 (3.3%).
A survey of 16,344 respondents conducted by iDARE on Dec. 27-31, 2021 and Jan. 3-7, 2022, showed Lazatin getting 92% (15,307) to Rivera’s 8% (1,307).
The Voice newsweekly’s online survey of February-March showed Lazatin at 94.73% with Rivera at 5.27%.
By all indications – per the results of these surveys by different pollsters – political observers here are one in saying that “Lazatin is headed to a landslide win.”
