CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A suspect in the killing of a supporter of the mayor of San Simon town last Saturday has been identified by the police.
However, newly-installed Pampanga Provincial Police OIC Senior Supt. Oscar Albayalde declined to name the suspect pending further investigation.
“Atin na kaming suspect, emiya mu asabi pa nung ninu uling manimbestiga kepa (We have a suspect but we still can’t reveal his identity since there is still an ongoing investigation),” said Albayalde who attended the Peace and Order Meeting and Election Preparations at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention here last Monday.
He added that as far as the police are concerned, they are still confirming if the killing is politically motivated.
Ali miya pa a confirm talaga nung election related although supporter ya ini (We still cannot confirm if this [killing] is election related although he is a supporter [of a political candidate]),” said Albayalde.
“He is just a (political) supporter and he was a former barangay captain but way back in the 1980s,” said Albayalde.
However, San Simon Mayor Leonora Capule-Wong insisted that the killing of her political supporter Marciano Intal, 63, was politically motivated.
“Definitely it’s political,” Wong said. “The Intal family are very peaceful and they even serve in the Church. The wife is a retired DepEd (Department of Education) district supervisor,” Wong added.
“So alang angulu nung e political kasi identified ya kanaku ampo kang gobernor (So there is no other angle except political since he was identified with me and the governor),” Wong said further.
The San Simon mayor said the Intal family have no known enemies bolstering her claim of political motivation.
But Wong said “I leave it to the police” to do their job in finding out the suspect.
Wong is a candidate for re-election under the Kambilan party while her rival is former mayor Manuel Bondoc who is a candidate of the ruling Liberal Party.
Intal was killed Saturday at the waiting shed of Barangay Dela Paz Elementary School by two unidentified men who were seen riding a motorcycle.
Reports said Intal was talking with a certain Alex Sanga at the waiting shed when the suspects, who are on board a blue motorcycle, stopped in front them and shot the victim in the different parts of his body with a .45 caliber pistol.
Albayalde said responding policemen recovered 12 spent.45 caliber pistol shells at the scene of the crime.
