ABUCAY, Bataan — Police officers here held a cleanup drive and tree planting activity last Saturday as part of their “Barangayanihan” program.

Town police chief Major Leopoldo L. Estorque, Jr. led in the twin activities in Barangay Laon and Sitio Grego in Calaylayan.

“This is to strengthen police-community relations in the sustained efforts for the campaign of support to end local communist armed conflict and anti-criminality programs,” Estorque noted.

He said that the Bataan police headed by provincial director Col. Joel Tampis wanted to set good examples from police officers of ways of caring for the environment.

“These undertakings also  bring the spirit of bayanihan which is one of the traditions of the Filipinos,” Estorque added.

Joining the police in tree planting and cleanup drive were Kaligkasan warriors, village officials and Sangguniang Kabataan members from the two areas.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Samal municipal police station headed by police chief Capt. Winston Leo Norte conducted “Barangayanihan” through a “Pa-Sopas at Pandesal ni Tsip Norte”  in Sitio Banlik in Barangay San Juan.

“This activity aims to help the community greatly affected by the coronavirus disease and extending bayanihan spirit within the community,” Norte said.

Helping the police officers in Samal were force multipliers and members of women’s groups, Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo, and the LGBTQ community.
