ANGELES CITY — Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. on March 28 directed the city environment and natural resources office (CENRO) to investigate the overflowing creek in Barangay Balibago, which has been clogged with garbage.
This, after the creek overflowed on March 27 due to heavy rains, causing floodwaters mixed with trash which engulfed the area.
“This incident highlights the urgent need to prevent waste buildup and ensure sustained cleanup efforts to protect our environment,” said Lazatin as he ordered the CENRO, the city environmental management system and Barangay Balibago officials led by chairman Joseph ‘PG’ Ponce to conduct a massive community cleanup on March 29.
The city government urges residents to participate in the cleanup and practice responsible waste disposal to keep waterways clear and prevent future flooding.
The Lazatin administration has undertaken environmental conservation programs, including the massive reforestation of the Angeles City Watershed in Barangay Sapangbato, the implementation of waste segregation at source in city hall offices, schools, and barangays, and the “Walang Plastikan, Plastik Palit Bigas” plastic-to-rice exchange program.
The city has also opened a waste transfer station and wastewater facility while strictly enforcing the “No Segregation, No Collection” policy. Angeles CIO
