ANGELES CITY Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. led the distribution of livelihood assistance to indigent individuals under the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development on Dec. 12.
A total of 100 indigent beneficiaries from the city’s 33 barangays received P10,000 each as part of the program, which aims to empower residents through sustainable economic opportunities.
This initiative follows Angeles City’s recognition in the 2024 Walang Gutom Awards, where the city’s Walang Plastikan: Plastic Palit Bigas Project ranked among the Top 17 out of 101 nationwide entries. As a result, the city was awarded this livelihood funding by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The mayor was joined by retired city social welfare and development officer Edna Duaso and current CSWDO OIC Francis De Guzman during the distribution.
“This assistance is not just financial support but an investment in the future of our community,” Lazatin said, emphasizing the city government’s commitment to uplifting the lives of Angeleños.
One of the Lazatin administration’s flagship programs focuses on livelihood initiatives for residents. Among the notable projects is the city-run OTOP (One Town, One Product) store, which provides a platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products.
Additionally, the Walang Plastikan: Plastic Palit Bigas Project, which promotes sustainable waste management, has so far collected 4 million kilos of plastic from Angeles City residents.
