CABANATUAN CITY — The Philippine National Police is set to revamp its commanders who might be engaged in partisan politics before the year-end, a top ranking official said Wednesday.

Major Gen.  Rhodel Sermonia, chief of the PNP directorate for operations, said before chiefs of police from Nueva Ecija and Aurora provinces here that an evaluation of their performance shall be conducted by mid-November.

Sermonia, a former director of the Central Luzon police office, said all policemen, particularly commanders such as regional and provincial directors and chiefs of police stations should abide by the rule of impartiality in political exercises.

“We can be updated of the tour of duty of the provincial directors, sino-sino yung mga dapat nang palitan, yung mga nage-enjoy na sa patronage ng mga local politicians, kasama diyan ang mga chiefs of police” he said

This, he explained, is the PNP’s way of helping the Commission on Elections  to ensure credible elections in 2022.

“And that our commanders are not playing with politicians to influence the result of the elections,” he stressed.

Sermonia, along with Undersecretary Joel Egco and other ranking officials of the National Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict, was here to push a “strong finish” on insurgency and illegal drugs under the multi-agency Duterte Legacy program.

Egco said police community relations offices are gaining ground in their campaign to win the people’s heart.

Nueva Ecija police director Col. Rhoderick Campo accompanied Sermonia’s party in various areas in the province.
