CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Newly installed Gov. Lilia Pineda has expressed confidence that Pres. Benigno Aquino III will continue to support projects in Pampanga, as she also appealed to her Kapampangan constituents to support the Aquino administration.
In her inaugural speech at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here last week, Pineda issued these statements in the presence of former Pres. Arroyo whom Aquino had vowed to be probed on alleged anomalies during her nine-year presidential term.
Pineda has been a close friend and political supporter of Mrs. Arroyo since the latter first entered politics as senator.
Speaking in Tagalog, Pineda thanked Mrs. Arroyo, whom she addressed “president-congresswoman,” for the projects the former president had implemented in Pampanga.
Pineda immediately added that she was hopeful that Aquino would continue to support projects for her constituents.
“I ask all of you to support the Aquino administration,” she also said.
At the convention center, Mrs. Arroyo, Pineda and other victors in the last May 10 polls in the province were sworn into office by Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Eduardo Nachura, an appointee of Mrs. Arroyo to the High Court. Mrs. Arroyo took oath as congresswoman for the second district of Pampanga.
Pineda also said her years of public service – from being Mayor of Lubao to being member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan – would make up for her lack of college degree. She vowed to focus on the health and education needs of her constituents.
“I will personally visit our government hospitals and public schools to find out their needs and provide for them,” she said.
Pineda also thanked her predecessor Gov. Eddie Panlilio for his accomplishments as governor, and expressed hope he would also support her administration.
