Pilar gets various benefits from national gov’t

    PILAR, Bataan- Municipal Mayor Carlos Pizarro, Jr. on Tuesday announced various benefits the town got from the national government that will profit many of its residents from the marginalized sector.

    Some 100 fishermen from this town next to Balanga City  the other day received from the Department of Labor and Employment livelihood check worth P966,250.  No less than DOLE Sec. Marianito Roque handed the check.

    This project is under DOLE’s “Integrated Services for Livelihood in Advancement of Fisherfolks” or ISLA.

    Senior citizens from Pilar numbering 1,657 are to receive this February from the Department of Social Welfare and Development P500 each or a total of P828,500 under government’s “Katas ng Vat para kay Lolo at Lola”.

    The elderly, 70 years old and above and receiving no pensions, are entitled to this program. Pilar has the most number of beneficiaries in Bataan. There are 9,031 senior citizens in the province included in the program with total amount of more than P4.5 million.

    Farmers from the town will benefit from the P5-million fund of the National Irrigation Administration. Out of this fund, canals are being constructed from the irrigation dam to the ricefields to further increase rice production.

    Even the government center that houses some national government offices is soon to undergo expansion.

    “Malaki ang pasasalamat namin sa national government sa pangunguna ng ating mahal na Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at maging kay Gov. Enrique Garcia dahil sa mga naitulong na at darating pang mga tulong sa aming mga kababayan,” Pizarro said.

    Pilar, a third class municipality, has an Internal Revenue Allotment of P36 million and income from other taxes for P7 million annually. It is where historic and world-famous Mt. Samat is located.
