SUBIC, Zambales (PIA) — The Philippine Navy (PN) reaffirms its steadfast commitment to uphold national sovereignty, regional stability, and maritime security during its 127th founding anniversary held on May 20, 2025 at the Naval Operating Base in Subic.
With the theme “Philippine Navy: Addressing Challenges, Promoting Regional Stability, and Strengthening Maritime Security,” the celebration highlighted the Navy’s continuing modernization efforts and its critical role in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests.
In his message, Philippine Navy Flag Officer-in-Command Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta emphasized the strategic importance of a capable naval force.

“Our readiness has become even more crucial in navigating the present security environment. The Navy plays an important role not only in defending national sovereignty but also in preserving marine resources for future generations,” he said.
A key milestone in this commitment was the commissioning of two new naval vessels—the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG06) and BRP Albert Majini (PG909).
BRP Miguel Malvar, a guided-missile frigate from South Korea, is equipped with modern anti-air, anti-ship, anti-submarine, and electronic warfare systems.
The 118-meter vessel is designed for multi-role, long-range operations vital to regional security, and is named after the last Filipino general to surrender during the Philippine-American War.
Meanwhile, BRP Albert Majini, an Acero-class Fast Attack Interdiction Craft, the country’s first locally assembled missile-capable patrol vessel, enhances the Navy’s littoral combat capabilities, particularly in rapid interdiction and coastal defense operations.
Named after Medal of Valor recipient Ensign Albert Majini PN, the vessel symbolizes the Navy’s resove to protect national and regional waters.
Ezpeleta underscored that these enhancements align with the Navy’s vital role in defending national sovereignty, preserving marine resources, and contributing to lasting peace in the region.
He added that the Navy’s strategic approach is anchored in the comprehensive archipelagic defense concept, which aims to secure the entire Philippine archipelago and its exclusive economic zone.
The anniversary also recognized the continued support of the national government, the dedication of military personnel, and the collaboration with key international partners, which have been instrumental in advancing the Navy’s modernization and multi-capable vision.
