PAMPANGA – The Local Health Insurance Office (LHIO) Angeles City and Membership Section-A (MemSec-A) have reached out to some 400 “Kapatad” who are also registered with the PhilHealth Konsulta during a medical mission initiated by Mekeni Cabalen Tampa Florida at the Aeta Community in Porac, Pampanga on February 26, 2023.

The medical mission aims to serve the health needs of Aetas, also known as “Kapatad” which means brother/ sister in “Kapampangan”, who are living in Porac, a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA) in Pampanga. The PhilHealth team provided information and education on programs, services and benefits including Konsulta or “Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama”, the expanded primary care benefits package of PhilHealth which covers consultation, laboratory tests, and maintenance medicines.

The activity was made possible through the support of LHIO-Angeles City headed by Anabelle B. Imana and team, Hospital on Wheels (HOW), Team Jesus, Professional Emergency Service Association of the Philippines, Pres. Lourdes Lozano of Mekeni Cabalen Tampa, Mekeni Food Corporation, Porac Local Government Unit, Barangay Camias, and PhilHealth Konsulta providers – Darwin G. Cruz, Diabetes & Hypertension Clinic, and Pampanga Health Care Diagnostic, Inc.

Working hand-in-hand with partners, LHIO-Angeles team was able to register and update the PhilHealth records of the concerned “Kapatad” and facilitated the availment of their Konsulta benefits. The registered members were able to avail of the free medical consultations, health services, and medicines. The volunteer doctors also performed minor operations and circumcision. Reading glasses were also prescribed and provided to those who were in need. Health care services for mothers, children, and infants were also given during the day, as well as information and education for Aeta mothers on the proper care to prevent their children from getting ill.

The gathering also showcased their talents. Indigenous dance performances, games with the active participation of “Kapatad”, and a feeding program to continuously promote health and wellness were also conducted.

This initiative is only one of the several that Team PhilHealth is pursuing together with partner accredited Konsulta providers to provide primary care services to every family through PhilHealth Konsulta. For the second quarter of 2023, LHIO Angeles intends to continue this mission and will fulfill Konsulta registration, assignment, and provision of primary care services to 800 more individuals in Barangay Camias in Porac, Pampanga.
